We’re very excited about this release. It is one of those gems that pretty much everyone in Japan is familiar with but has never seen the light of day in the English-speaking world. It is called Warau Salesman (笑ゥせぇるすまん – Laughing Salesman). It is the brainchild of one half of the duo that created the legendary series Doraemon, now the official mascot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Warau Salesman aired on Japanese TV for three years from 1989-1992 for over a hundred episodes. It stars a devious man named Moguro Fukuzou who possesses a sick sense of humor. (In other words, he’s an epic troll.) Each episode he chooses a new “customer” (read: victim) who is in need of help in some way. He offers them the “help” they need but often with disastrous consequences. The story is unlike any I’ve ever seen, to be honest. It’s also worth pointing out that this show is NOT intended for children. It has many adult themes such as drinking alcohol, prostitution, and gambling.

We are calling this a “Special Release” because it’s unlikely we will sub the entire show in order. We will likely pick out some of the best stories from time to time and subtitle them in our free time. Each episode is a standalone story from start to finish so there are no continuity issues to worry about.

The video is a 10bit h.264 encode. Filesize is 130,033,861 bytes and the CRC is 1F746DFA.
