Jungle Emperor Episode #1
Based on the original manga by Osamu Tezuka, this series is the modern remake of a 1965 series, also titled ‘Jungle Emperor’, and known as ‘Kimba the White Lion’ in the U.S.

IF you are “Young at heart” enough to remember the original series, more power to ya! Also what also may come to mind, is a certain domestic animation agglomerate who allegedly took their ‘inspiration’ from this for their own movie (which they still deny) a bad habit they never outgrew… COUGHnadiaCOUGH. But that is another story for another time.

In an ancient jungle in Africa, the decedents of a white lion cub who was worshiped by Egyptians serve as the guardians and protectors of the jungle. However, the current ruler, Panja, is shot and killed by humans while trying to rescue his mate, Eliza, whom they captured. Eliza is loaded onto a ship bound for the London Zoo, and gives birth to Panja’s son and heir, Leo, while on board. To ensure her son doesn’t end up in the zoo, she encourages him to jump into the ocean and swim back to Africa, and succeed his father as ruler of the jungle.

The series is ecologically minded, and deals with Leo trying to keep peace in the jungle while at the same time, attempting to fend off human attackers and other threats. It’s a saga on an epic scale that deserves a wider audience.
