Hi everyone.
Since 2001, it has been our mission here at Live-eviL to bring you the best quality version we can of anime that has been overlooked. We have dedicated tens of thousands of dollars and hours to bring you classics like Rose of Versailles, Yawara, Death Note, and many others.
On rare occasions, we come across a project that we truly desire to bring you but we lack the resources to do so properly. One such project is Attack No,1, aka the greatest sports anime ever made.
It is absolutely mind-boggling that we’ve gone over 40 years and no one has ever subtitled Attack No.1. The show is one of the most influential anime ever created, single-handedly launching the sports anime & shoujo anime markets in Japan. For two straight years, over 20% of Japanese TV viewers tuned in to see Kozue’s volleyball struggles every week. It is a cultural institution that, unless you live in one of the European countries it aired in, you’ve probably never heard of it outside Japan. Until now.
Like Rose of Versailles, it is consistently voted into Top Ten Favorite Anime lists. The animation quality, for its time, is absolutely top notch, and the story is fantastic.
Mark my words, Attack No.1 will be the new flagship Live-eviL series, on par with Condor Hero, Rose of Versailles, and Yawara. It is 104 episodes long and we plan to bring you every episode subtitled in maximum quality possible, just like we did for those great series.
However, we need YOUR help to buy the Blu-ray boxes. The show was restored and released on Blu-ray recently. We currently only have R2 DVD rips and these are not sufficient for this title. The Blu-rays are surprisingly inexpensive (around $4 per episode, compared to $30 for Lodoss!) at only $450 for the entire series in glorious high definition.

It´s a nice idea that you want to sub this anime, but the question is, will you really finish it, and how long will it take ?
The anime has 104 Episodes and if you release 1 Episode per week, it will take 2 Years to finish.
I assume that you don’t have the time to release 1 Episode per week (because there’s a real live too), so it will take even longer
A lot can happen in this period (someone dies, you got real life issues, you lose interest in subbing, we have an Zombie Invasion or maybe World War 3 starts) so I’m a bit sceptical if we will see this anime get subbed till the end.
By the way
This anime was a great hit here in Germany. It was called “Mila Superstar” over here and was one of the first anime which aired on German TV.
So personally I would like to watch this series in it´s original language. The english Subs are no problem, even if I’m not a native english Speaker, I can read an understand enough of this language so that I know what´s going on.
Hehe, I hear you. We finished Yawara and that was 124 episodes, so have some faith in us! 🙂
We sometimes take our time but we have a very solid track record of finishing projects (assuming they don’t get licensed).

Yeah, that got finished because kokujin-kun translated 2-3 eps a week.

But to be fair, we were flying through the episodes at a pretty solid clip before it got licensed. It’s not like the project stalled, we completely dropped it when Animeigo announced. There’s no doubt we coulda finished it in those four lost years, but I am very happy how things worked out. I just feel bad for Animeigo… I think if they would have released box 2 first it mighta sold better ><;

Cool, I only found the DVD to attack no.1 once on p2p so it’s great that you are doing the BD. Better quality.
I am a bit suspicious about Condor Hero though. So raising the money at that time was not worth it. Can we expect a sub to the end this time?
Also did your policy change about subbing licensed anime?
Last thing I wanna know is…will you do all 3 seasons of it or just one?
Anyway expect greatness from Attack no.1, it’s totally worth it. Just like Ace o Nerae! which is also a lovely classic.
PS: DVDs to condor heroes can still be found on the net. Half year ago I saw people posting links to the group who were going to do 3rd season but died after releasing a few.)
PSS: If DVDs are fine for Attack no.1 and P2P doesn’t work, then you can try to contact Rosa_Gigantea from lililicous and check if she still got her box or know any who got the DVDs/BDs and want to rip them for you.^^

Thanks for your support! With regards to Condor Hero, we actually couldn’t have completed the series without the VCDs, they filled in a bunch of missing episodes we had along the way. We made it to episode 23 before it goes licensed (and then we subbed eps 24-26 internally which we recently donated to BakaBT so they can have a complete set). We’re all about respecting licenses but considering that it’s been 8 years and Tai Seng has yet to release the Japanese audio track in the US, I’d say we’re in the clear. We will only be doing season 1, unless a very talented Chinese translator wants to do the rest for us. It’s just outside of our normal skillset unfortunately! We tried to do a bit of S2 and it became clear we couldn’t do the same quality we had grown accustomed to.

Have you heard any word on how the BDs turned out? I haven’t been able to find any screenshots on the net and I’ve been worried since the release was handled by Star Child, who are basically worse than Hitler.

Hi benjamin! Thanks for your offer of support. Just to be clear, we’re not saying we are 100% going to be doing the series right away. What we are doing is acquiring a handful of promising old titles while I can purchase the video tapes for a reasonable price in Japan. We would digitize the videos and store them in our “future projects” stash. So this is for long-term planning. I don’t want to mislead you thinking that your donation would lead to it immediately being subbed. It would, however, allow us to do it when the time is right. Does that make sense?
As for Oyayubi Hime Monogatari… We would need to find a translator who is interested in the project to tackle it any time soon. I’m not against the idea but I will not have the room to translate it myself for some time. I’ve already signed myself up for other projects. I will certainly ask around!
And lastly, that sequel movie you found looks very interesting! I will try and see if I can get a copy of it. As it’s only one film it is much more manageable than the longer series. Thank you for pointing it out!

Oh man, I wish I’d heard about this sooner. I first discovered Attack No. 1 just a few weeks ago and was pretty bummed to see that just like Shin Ace Wo Nerae, the series hasn’t been given English subtitles yet.
However, after stumbling upon your website and reading about your project here to sub the entire anime on Blu-Ray, I can say you’ve definitely got my support! I’ve already donated 50$ and I’ll probably continue to donate whatever funds I can until you successfully reach your goal.

I donated $100 a couple weeks back but I haven’t seen an update in the amount raised yet. I have other people ready a willing to donate the final amount but are waiting to see how much is still needed.
