A lovely thing has happened. Toei Animation has subtitled two of our favorite titles, Captain Harlock and Galaxy Express 999, and have partnered with Crunchyroll to put them online. Effective immediately, Live-eviL Fansubs has dropped both titles and all torrents have been deactivated.

We released Galaxy Express 999 episode 1 on February 8th, 2004. This was just shy of five years ago. This continued Live-eviL’s love affair with Leiji Matsumoto, which began with Galaxy Railways the year prior. Thankfully, the man has created more works than any one person should ever be allowed to do, so even without these two titles, we will have plenty to bring you going forward. (Did someone say 999 movies? Remastered soundtracks? New translations? Believe it! :D)

In these five years, we’ve managed to subtitle less than one third of Galaxy Express 999, so hopefully Toei will eclipse the pace we’ve subtitled it at. As for Captain Harlock, it would seem we completed it in the nick of time.

We ask that all of you who downloaded our subs, at the very least, go to http://www.crunchyroll.com and click on the episodes. While you’re at it, click a few web ads to help give some revenue back to Toei Animation, the studio that brought you these wonderful gems of animation.

Please no angry comments, no negativity, no hatred towards Crunchyroll or Toei for “making Live-eviL drop the shows.” L-E has always dropped shows upon licensing, and always will. In this age of ever-increasing piracy, we try to be a beacon of light in the fansubbing community to prove that there are some groups who still abide by some sort of “fansubber’s ethics.” (How’s that for some BS?)

We invite all of you who have been enjoying these titles to come to our web forum (link on the right), come to our irc channel ( #live-evil on irc.enterthegame.com – see www.mirc.com for an excellent irc client) and say hi! Tell us how we’ve, hopefully, brightened up your life by bringing you these true anime classics.

This old dog still has a lot of life in her yet, so keep an eye on Live-eviL in 2009 and beyond for more of your favorite anime titles.

Addendum by Suzaku:

The Galaxy Express has left the station.

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that we must drop Ge999, unfinished due to being licensed and subtitled by Toei Animation and subsequent partnership with Crunchyroll to put them online. And no matter how much we did want to complete this project, all torrents for Galaxy Express 999 have been deactivated.

I am very sad about losing this project, but we can be glad that it is moving ahead in the pro circuit. I will still move ahead on my other current projects, and having lost this one I will soon be launching a new project based on a piece of work that Hayao Miyazaki did set in a post apocalyptic future (hint 😛 )
Thank you for sticking with us through all the ups and downs.
Suzaku. =^-^=

Katri, Girl of the Meadows Episode 13

So today, we announce yet another World Masterpeice Theatre title, a joint project with Ushi-Ai: Katri, Girl of the Meadows. We pick up from episode 13 where Katri meets Aki, a university student, who inspires her and Martti.

This release follows the same format as earlier Ushi-Ai releases, mkv with both Finnish and English subtitles. Enjoy!
