DEATH NOTE LICENSED

It was announced today that Viz Media has acquired rights to Death Note in the U.S.A. Please see the press release here – http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=915
As a consequence we have dropped Death Note to respect the rights of the legitimate US licensors. The torrents have been disabled and files removed from distribution. We ask everyone to stop sharing the files and remove them from distribution.
We would like to encourage everyone to support Viz in bringing Death Note to the English speaking world in this innovative new digital download format and eventually the DVD release as well.

[…] As some of you may well know already, Death Note has been licensed by VIZ Media. I shall quote Wikipedia: “As of January 10, 2007, the anime series has been licensed by VIZ Media.” You can read about it on VIZ Media’s official site here. Ok so what does this mean? Are the fansub groups still going to be subbing them? Live-Evil have announced that they have dropped the subbing of Death Note. Toriyama World have also announced that they will be dropping Death Note. Animanda, however, have not announced that they will be dropping it. You should read the comments as Death Note fans enquire about the licensing of the show. So what happens with me? Well, if Animanda continues to sub Death Note, I will of course continue to follow the series by subs. However, if they were to stop subbing it, I will still continue on with raws.
