Shion no Ou (22 episodes, Studio Deen, 2007)

Shion no Ou (Shion’s King) is a 22 episode show that came out in Winter 2007 & Spring 2008. The main character, Yasuoka Shion, is an 11-year-old shougi genius who’s just one step away from becoming a professional kishi. But she’s also haunted by a dark past – her parents were murdered before her eyes and she lost her ability to speak because of it. A dark murder mystery and shougi are flawlessly interwoven to create a tale you won’t want to miss.
